.A 結合後面的“to coax (哄) the dog to him but, frightened, it had__4__”可知,本來Ehlers試圖(try)把那條*哄到身邊來,希望幫助它。

.C 根據上文的“but, frightened, it had run off”可知,那條*跑掉了,因此Ehlers被那條走失的(lost)*弄得心煩意亂。

.D 結合前面的“After a long and careful”和後面的“Greg saw, across a field, the dog moving__8__ away”可知,經過長時間的仔細搜索(search),Greg看見了那條*。

.B 根據空格前面的“Nervousness and fear were replaced”以及後面的“It just started licking (*) Ehlers' face.”

.B 結合後面的“as lost in the local paper”及“The ad”可知,一位當地的農場主告訴他們這條*好像是在當地報紙上被登廣告的(advertise)走失的*。

.B 根據後面的“number for a town in southern Michigan”和“the number of Jeff and Lisa”以及生活常識可知,尋*啟事上應該有電話(phone)號碼。

.A 根據後面的“the number of Jeff and Lisa to tell them he had __13__ their dog”可知,Ehlers打電話 (call)告訴Jeff和Lisa,即*的主人,他發現了他們的*。

.C 根據前面的“Ehlers __12__ the number of Jeff and Lisa to tell them”並結合生活常識可知,Ehlers當然是打電話告訴*的主人,他發現(find)了他們的*。

.A 根據後面的“in Iowa before Thanksgiving with his dog, Rosie, but the gun shots had scared the dog off”可知,Jeff帶着他的*Rosie在Iowa打獵(hunt),但是*聲把*嚇跑了。

.D 結合上文Ehlers發現了Rosie和本句“Jeff searched__15__ for Rosie in the next four days.”

.A 分析本句中的“says Lisa of Ehlers' rescue”可知,這句是*的女主人Lisa讚美Ehlers的話。
