At the age of seven, Dominic Osorio couldn’t understand that he was facing a serious illness. To make the young boy understand the situation, his mother told him that he should become Superman to fight the serious illness.

“During his treatment, he could not move, and then he thought of himself as Superman and fought the illness bravely,” Monique Spagna, Dominic’s grandmother, told a reporter.

Dominic’s doctors and nurses were encouraged by this child. So was Dave Anderson, manager of a local restaurant that Dominic’s family often went to. The more he learned about Dominic, the more he wanted to help. So Anderson decided to create a comic book about the Superman created by Dominic. And the book was written according to Dominic’s real-life experience with his illness.

The book was written to help children with serious illness to feel better about their frightening treatment. “Dominic is really the Superman in this story,” said Anderson. “This one little boy has encouraged many people.”

Anderson has sold 1,000 books, and the money has been used for a children’s cancer charity.
