    In England everything is the other way round.

    On Sundays on the Continent(歐洲大陸)even the poorest puts on his best clothes, tries to look good, and at the same time the life of the country becomes lively and pleasant. In England even the richest person dresses in some poor and old clothes and the country becomes dull(*鬱、單調)and sad. On the Continent, there is one subject which should not be talked about-the weather. In England, if you do not repeat the sentence“Lovely day, isn’t it? ”at least two hundred times a day, you are thought to be a little dull. On the Continent Sunday papers comes on Monday. In England they are on Sunday.

    On the Continent, when a bus is getting near a stop, the conductor rings the bell if he wants his bus to go on without stopping. In England you ring the bell if you want the bus to stop. On the Continent, people have good food. In England people have good table manners.

    On the Continent, learned persons love to repeat the words of great writers, and in this way they tell others they know lots of things. In England only unlearned persons do like that.

    Many people on the Continent think life is a game, but the English think football is a game.
