Schoolboys are only allowed to play with soft sponge (海綿) footballs on the playground instead of leather (皮的) and plastic (塑料的) footballs at Harewood Junior School in England.

The head teacher Andrea Mills says that the decision is to help students keep away from hurting themselves. She has bought some sponge footballs for each group so that the children can still play their favorite games.

Andrea Mills has also explained that they will be still using the leather balls for football clubs and P.E. lessons.

However, most parents don't agree with the decision. A father says, “people have been playing footballs for years. There have never been any problems before. The health and safety rules really need to be thought over again.”

A mother says, “My son is on the football team at school and he needs to practice. These sponge balls aren't going to help him.”

Andrea Mills still keeps up the decision and explains that it has been accepted by both children and teachers at school. “Children love footballs and we don't want to stop them, so we use sponge balls because they can't hurt people，” she says.
