If the outflow falls the average duration of unemployment will correspondingly rise.
Nearly half of the country’s unemployed workers have been off the job for 27 weeks or more, and the average duration of unemployment has risen to over 35 weeks (see chart).
At a time of high unemployment, the Government's prime aim is to provide a comprehensive and effective employment service to help the unemployed re-enter the workforce and minimise the duration of unemployment.
