The uniformity of deformation during hot rolling could be improved by properly increasing the slab thickness and adopting large reduction rate in first several rolling passes.
The results show that the openness and shape of funnel mold are critical for formation of longitudinal cracking. The optimized funnel shape has relation to the slab thickness.
T he relation of the four parameters with initial slab thickness, initial slab width, width reduction and edger roll diameter was obtained and a new mathematical model was accomplished as well.
The design parameters and the calculating method of the slab thickness were given.
